About Us

We are a small team of hosts, designers, and friends who care about how proportion and light create the feel of a place. Our work starts with the natural setting, with shade, airflow, foliage, and sunlight, and grows into spaces that breathe. Large openings, terraces that flow outdoors, local textures, and discreet comfort create an atmosphere that feels both private and open.

The name comes from the Licuala palm, a fan that opens leaf by leaf. That is how we approach everything: carefully, quietly, and sustainably, with respect for people and for the garden. Our hospitality is simple, presence when you need it, quiet when you want it. We do not offer only a bed, but a frame for rest, inspiration, and moments you will want to carry with you.

Licuala sits in the jungle on Sri Lanka’s south coast, a short walk from beaches like Kabalana and the breaks around Ahangama. Each bungalow is set in a private garden or patio that open to the outside. Essentials are in place: fibre internet, filtered water, air conditioning, and in some homes plunge pools or outdoor showers. Days move slowly, swimming, reading, working at a desk with natural light, or exploring nearby villages, tea country, and wildlife reserves.

At Licuala, we believe that every tropical breeze carries possibility- and every community deserves a runway to redefine itself. Located in the lush south of Sri Lanka, Licuala is not just a physical space but a launchpad: for creative expression and remote work, for regenerative hospitality, and for true relaxation that honours the place, nature and the ocean.
