November 2025, heavy monsoon rains brought severe flooding to several regions of Sri Lanka, displacing families, damaging essential infrastructure, and disrupting access to food, clean water, and transportation. As the waters rose, entire communities endured days – sometimes weeks – without stable supplies or basic resources.

At Licuala, we’ve always believed that being part of this island means showing up for its people, especially in moments of hardship. With deep roots in the south and strong relationships across the region, we mobilized quickly to support those most affected.

Food Staples for Families in Need

Together with local leaders, relief volunteers, and long-standing community networks, we coordinated the distribution of essential food staples to households impacted by the floods.

The focus was on items that could provide reliable nourishment even in situations where cooking facilities were damaged or limited. It was simple help, but meaningful for families navigating uncertainty during those first difficult days.

A Community Effort Rooted in Care

What stood out most during this time was the unity and generosity of the local community. Neighbours, staff members, and friends stepped forward without hesitation — helping prepare packages, organizing transport, and identifying families who were most vulnerable.

The resilience of the south is shaped not only by its landscapes but by the kindness and strength of its people. We are proud to stand alongside them.

Continuing Our Commitment

Although the immediate danger has passed, recovery will take time. Homes need repairs, livelihoods must be rebuilt, and families require steady support as they begin again.

Licuala will remain engaged in local initiatives that strengthen community welfare — with a focus on practical, respectful support that reaches the people who need it most.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who offered time, resources, and compassion. Moments like these remind us why community matters, why roots matter, and why caring for one another is at the heart of who we are.
